We had a very difficult time with our hot water heater. The technician came out the first day of our story and relit the pilot light. Hot water restored! By that night, pilot light out again. Next day, technicians (started with one then added another... after about 5 hours of effort from the first) came a determined a gas leak, tried to put on new gas valve and could never get it to work, decision made that the new valve was faulty. They spent 8 hours here. Along the way, other aspects of the heater (unrelated and not in proximity to the gas valve) were determined to be worn and broken as well. They offered to fix this for cost of equipment. We decided that, if there were this many problems with the heater, we should replace. They upgraded our water heater, installed the new and gave a substantial discount off the price of a lower grade hot water heater.
